First of all, I would like to tell where does the basic information of the Tree
composition come from. The merit of the Tree creation is of a famous Russian genealogist
who composed genealogical trees for several famous families, Mr. Vladimir
Baraev. Among others, he made the family trees of the Bestuzhevs, the Sabashnikovs
and the Kandinskys. The story of these (and some others) families was published in
Mr. Baraev's book: «The Tree: The Decembrists and the Kandinskys Family»
(Vladimir Baraev. Drevo: Dekabristy i semeistvo Kandinskikh. - Moscow,Politizdat Publisher, 1991.
270 p. with pictures. ISBN 5-250-01150-0). Unfortunately I never met the author of
this book, I tried to find him while preparing the site, but I failed. If somebody
who knows Mr. Baraev comes to this web site, please be so kind to
contact me.
The second stimulating motive of the site creation, was my visit to the site
«All Russia
Family Tree». But unfortunately there were nobody named Kandinsky there
at that moment, so I decided to create my own web page with my family's genealogy.
I did it in the late 1999 - early 2000 the evenings after coming back home from
job.
So, the basis of the site is the genealogy created by Mr. Baraev and published
in the above named book. I made only a few changes regarding my branch of the
tree and I corrected several small mistakes.

How to Use the Site
| |
It's very easy. The Tree is devised in generations. In total trey are 10.
Besides, some of the oldest Kandinskys are not «linked» to the Tree
yet and they compose a particular group named «The
First Kandinskys». The oldest «linked» ancestor
is Aleksey Kandinsky (XVIII century) who is the I Generation,
and I am for example in the IX Generation.
Every single name starts from a new line. The brothers and sisters with the respective
spouses are grouped together and are separated from others with borders.
Before a name (or a group of names) you can find such icons:
- Look for a ancestor in the previos generation. If there is no such an icon, the ancestors of the person are unknown.
- Look for a decsendant (or descendants) in the next generation.
- Spouse. After the icon you can see the text «Husband» or «Wife».
If a person had several spouses, it is marked in the text, for example: «First Husband»
After a name you can also find some of these icons:
- Portrait. On a click you will get a person's portrait.
- Letter. Send an e-mail.
- Web Site. On a click you will pass to the person's own web site.
For navigating the site you can use the upper fall-down menu.
For moving to the previous or to the next generation page, to the ABC list or to
the Home page you can as well use the bottom menu.
For quite a lot of time I was thinking on what to do with women that had changed
their surnames after marriage. Finally, I decided to use the following system:
in [square brackets] you see the woman's surname after marriage;
in (parenthesis) you see the woman's surname before marriage (the maiden name);
if the woman has been never married (or if I have no information about such marriages)
you see the woman's surname with no brackets.

What's Next?
| |
The main project today is to make a graphic version of the Tree with its «branches»
and «leaves».
I am also always ready to correct the errors on the site or add new information.
If you have something that regards the Kandinskys and/or the Tree, do not hesitate to
contact me.
