It's very easy. The Tree is devided in generations. In total trey are 10.
Besides, some of the oldest Kandinskys are not «linked» to the Tree
yet and they compose a particular group named «
First Kandinskys». The oldest «linked» ancestor
is Aleksey Kandinsky (XVIII century) who is the First Generation,
and I am for example in the Ninth Generation.
You can use the tree in several ways:
- First, you can jump to the ABC List, select a
person you would like to view and click on its name.
- Second, you can use the Searching
Centre where you can manually enter the searching criteria of the person you are interested in:
his or her name, surname, years of life and so on.
- Finally, you can chose from the top menu a generation you would like to view and it will be displayed.
Now I have to say that all the generations can be of two types:
- A Partial generation In a Partial generation you see only a group of persons having a singular ancestor (i. e.
brothers and sisters) with respective spouses if any.
- A Full generation In a Full generation you see all the persons
which are separated by the same number of ancestors from the first known Kandinsky already linked to the Tree. The generation
is devided in separate groups of persons having the same ancestor with relative spouses (if any).
In both Partial and Full generation modes you see can the following icons:
- Ancestor. Look for an ancestors in the previous generation. If there is no such an icon, the ancestors of the person are unknown.
- Descendant(s). Look for a descendant (or descendants) in the next generation.
Both icons open the new window in Partial Generation mode. At any time you can switch the
Partial Generation mode to Full Generation mode by clicking a respective link at the top menu.
Other icons that you can find in the Generation modes are:
- Spouse. After the icon you can see the text «Husband» or «Wife».
If a person had several spouses, it is marked in the text, for example: «First Husband»
- Portrait. On a click you will get a person's portrait. This function is also available in the
ABC List mode.
- Letter. Send an e-mail.
- Web Site. On a click you will pass to the person's own web site.
On every page (except for the Main page, Portrait pages and Info pages) you can see a bottom menu.
The functions available from the bottom menu are:
- Previous Generation. Jump to the previous generation in Full Genaration mode. (It's available only in the
Generation modes).
- Next Generation. Jump to the next generation in Full Genaration mode. (It's available only in the
Generation modes).
- Main Page.
- ABC List.
- Toggle Languages (between English and Russian).
All the names are shown in full forms that are used in Russia (except for the persons which
are not Ethnic Russians or others where the full form of the name is unknown), i. e.:
- Name, followed by a patronymic and a surname.
- For women who changed their surnames after marriage in brankets you can find the maiden name.
- If a part of a full name is unknown (i. e. partonymic, a name, etc.) it is mentioned
after the full name in brankets.
- If all is unknown about a person, it is named Unknown.
- In the ABC list the person about which only their surname is known and unknowns are
followed by a remark in brankets such as: a son of... or the second wife of...
